Key Lighting

This tells what the audience needs or should look at. the lighting can also reflect the psychology of a character. It can also be used to support and define the genre of the film.

Lights

Key light - This is the most important light in the scene, it is like the sun. It is used to illuminate the subject. It shouldn't be too close to the camera as it would make the subject too flat. If its put either side of the subject it can be used to make them look mysterious.

Fill light - This illuminates the shadow of the subject when the key light is on, it can be used to fill or remove the shadows. This light as not as bright as the key light.

Back light - This is used to separate the subject from the background, as the other two light can make the subject look flat and blend into the background, it illuminates the subject from the back.
